Hi Thyme and all Forum Friends............. I've been playing with ColorSweep, Rotaccelarators, OrientationInterpolators on the Worm lessons and all was fine&fine.......... But i maked a head to the Worm and realized that body was standing vertically and i needed it horizontally placed behind the head.So i selected Seamless node and rotated it to the point wished. But when i outputted it i saw the body was again vertical in wrl file.Went back to prog, selected Seamless node that i had rotated, hitted f10, compile/scale/rotate. Outputted it again and got it fine and at right place in wrl file, body horizontaly placed. But when i open the program again i c that Worm body is standing again, vertically. Question: How could i make it remain horizontal and not coming back to vertical like it was b4 compile/scale/rotate? Knuffels, Miranda

Dear Miranda thanks for sharing your experience here. Though the problem you have raised all makes logical sense why this would happen it is something that can easily catch anyone out even my self You cant use most of the F10 geometry functions for triangles that get "built" by the build nodes. You may be able to make changes like dragging vertices, delete triangles, paste in color to a vertex, or using the compileTransform function for example and see the changes immediately happen ok but if the build nodes do a "build" or to put it another way a "build cycle" takes place all the triangles made by the build nodes get re-built. A build cycle can occur when a file is opened or when ever a field that belongs to a build node is changed or a build cycle can be started manually by pressing F9 One solution is to remove the build nodes (which I told you in email but all triangles were lost, will look into why this happened, bug in 44e involving clearCycle I guess) but the way I want to show how to do this is to use a build node to change the orientation of your cylinder. This can be done a number of ways but I will show what I feel will be very useful way to learn as an example Insert a Place node immediately under the ColorSweep node (right click on ColorSweep and select paste/sibling below/new/Place) USE seg0 for the Place node's part field paste/part/USE seg0Set Place node's rotation to 1 0 0 -1.5708 so that the tail faces away from us (base faces screen) The Place node's scale and translation fields can be changed too to change seg0 Ok that's all done for making it rotate on the y axis instead of the z axis but now we got to change the RotAccelerator so that it rotates on the y axis instead of the z axis or it will twist instead of bend the tail/worm. Go to RotAccelerator and change init to 0 1 0 -.2 for index 0 change axis to 0 1 0 for index 1 (if you are this far in tutorial) change axis to 0 -1 0 this should all work now Note use 0 1 0 in stead of 0 0 1 from now on for RotAccelerator so that we use the y axis for rotations knuffels miranda thyme

hi thyme and seamless friends I just did the cat tail like effects tutorial. Had a bit of trouble getting it to work at frist. I think - "Add 4 ROUTEs from rotAccelerator1's value_changed TO seg0's, seg1's, seg2's and seg3's rotation" should be - "Add 4 ROUTEs from rotAccelerator1's value_changed TO seg4's, seg5's, seg6's and seg7's rotation" or maybe i missed a step Love that slinky cat tail ;D Bumpy

Is it possible to have each lesson as a separate subject instead of resopnse to a previous comment?? I would find it easier to be able to look just at messages concerning one lesson then trying to wade thru messages for lessons i haven't attempted yet. But, hey, that's confuzzled me. Maybe others in group now or those who join in future won't get confuzzled like moi :-D flo

good point floe I have thought about this too I did try this to begin with but got a bit confused in the end how these threads work heheh Perhaps a different title makes a new thread? I will try after this post There is quoting but this does not seem as good as separate thread branching out like I seen elsewhere what ever the case yes I be happy to try getting better structure here I will try a few things out and see what works best yes would be good I agree to be able to résumé a thread in different stages of the tutorials since it seems every day comments of everyone doing it together is not going like I had planed just as well perhaps because its taking a lot of my time to post and reply each day for me. kind regards thyme

Ok I think I found a pretty good compromise to how I had originally intended. Each Lesson now has it's own thread so that they are more independent of each other. The breakthrough for me was figuring out wart sticky meant. I could not find any help on sticky so I had to experiment to find out what it did LOL Sticky keeps the topic (titles) to the order they are left. Before the problem was the topics would move in the list in accordance to what had the last post. What I am happy about is a thread can be inserted and the topics can be re ordered so there is enough flexibility to get by how I felt it should be done. Re ordering them does take time. As far as I can see to reorder then I have to unsticky them and then sticky them back in the order they are meant to be so for this reason I have made the titles reversed in order so that the last in is always at the top of the list of topics. In case you have not already noticed the worm tutorial now has a worm index but this is not in reverse order, not a big compromise to worry about I hope. Shame I did not set this up like this to begin with but I am like everyone else here learning as I go along best wishes thyme

under Animating The Parts on Worm Animation it says Add a ROUTE from the TimeSensor's fraction_changed TO the RotAccelerator's set_fraction pase/fraction_changed/TO/set_fraction (copy the RotAccelerator first) shuld say Past not pase

hi miniwarrior welcome to the seamless3d forum and thanks much for letting me know about this misprint which should have been "paste". As a result of your help I have now fixed this page for my www.seamless3d.com site. Please note this thread had links going back to my old tpg site so I have modified the old links here on this thread to point to the new home www.seamless3d.com too.
